Blessed Leopold of Alpandeire statue
Saint Leopold was born in 1866 in Dalmatia and, from a very early age, he wanted to serve God. At the age of 18 he joined the Franciscan Order and six years later he was a priest. Saint Leopold felt that his mission was to unite the Eastern Christians who were separated from the Latin Catholic Church, but his superiors never allowed this mission to be fulfilled because of his fragile health. He went from convent to convent and was much sought after for his great qualities as spiritual counselor. Saint Leopold died at the age of 76 in the Capuchin Friary of Santa Cruz in Padua.
